Comment: The poor state of the airline industry makes it likely that mergers will become a frequent
occurrence in the near future. Otherwise, it is difficult to see how many airlines will continue to
survive.
|
Comment: The US space program has to be struggling to find its identity for a generation, and the
ISS appears to be one of the greatest symbols of its woes. The orbital laboratory was a major NASA goal
for decades and has taken some 15 years to build. Yes now that the end is in sight, no one knows what to
do with this floating hotel or how to pay for it in the future.

Comment: Putin deserves some credit for rebuilding the shattered post-Soviet economy and improving
the economic status of the Russian people. Unfortunately, the methods by which he has done so include
seizure of private property, imprisonment and intimidation of political adversaries, and virtual
elimination of a free and independent press. With Putin's KGB background and placement of cronies
throughout government and industry, the Soviet Union is back in all but name.
|
Comment: Based on the criteria the Air Force originally announced for the new tanker, the 767 would
appear to be the best match for the service's needs. The selection of the much larger A330 begs the
question of whether those criteria were changed during the competition giving Northrop/Airbus an unfair
advantage. Boeing ought to challenge this contract and, in our opinion, the decision should be overturned.
