Comment: Based on commonality with the existing Indian Air Force, the MiG-35 would seemingly be the
best choice. However, Russia continues to lag behind the West in key areas like radar and avionics
performance. The F-18E/F has the most capable radar of the competitors, and it or the F-16 would give
India access to a wide variety of advanced US weapon systems. Reports suggest none of the European
manufacturers have high hopes for being competitive in this contest.
|
Comment: Russia is doing its best to have it both ways--gently chiding Iran for disobeying
international agreements while gladly taking as much Iranian money as the country will spend. Iran, in
turn, is more than happy to accept Russia's advanced technology and use it to arm Islamic rebels in
Chechnya and elsewhere in Russia's troubled southern regions.

Comment: The A380 debacle has certainly strained Airbus and will put the conglomerate at a
disadvantage. Boeing will be able to bring the 787 and its
737 replacement to market several years before Airbus equivalents. The
challenge now is for Boeing to live up to its aggressive expectations for the 787 delivery schedule.
